Augmented Reality Art in Everyday Situations

The Marx Halle in Vienna was used as a cattle market until 1997.
Following renovation, it is now an attractive, listed event location.
The art fair SPARK 2025 was presented at Marx Halle. A cow was positioned above the entrance.

It is widely recognized that methane emitted by cattle is a major cause of global warming.

Water is a scarce, precious resource. Yet we see many water usages just for fun or as architectural element in the design of squares, especially in the placement of fountains. These fountains can be regarded as fictional means of cooling a heated world. However, even in such a fiction the means do not always meet the goals.

2023: In the warmest October so far, countless restaurant heaters lit up Vienna's city center with subtle red light to warm the apparently freezing guests. Vienna is different - in many cities these radiant heaters are banned.

The Christmas lighting, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Vienna, is used in Vienna's shopping streets since mid-November to increase the buying behavior. Unfortunately, the opportunity was missed to remind people with special lightening objects of sustainability and to encourage reflection in a time of terrible crises.

However, climate activists took action in a new, quiet way: they placed a virtual globe with desert-like reddened land masses reminiscent of climate change between the incentives for the Christmas shopping frenzy and distribute the associated photos and videos via the Internet.

In some places, the two types of Christmas decorations have been symbiotically linked: Calls to buy combined with those for sustainability and contemplation. Can economy and ecology be combined after all?
