In recent years, the climate crisis has become a main topic for socially engaged artists. Groups such as Artists for Future Austria have been founded in many countries. While important works visualizing possible effects of the crisis exist in Virtual Reality, only a few contributions are based on Augmented Reality Art.

In 2023, the metasphere developed by Gerhard Knolmayer together with Sarah Montani and APTIQ was displayed in exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York City.

This climate-related metasphere has subsequently been used to augment physical artworks, leading to new interpretations that recall the severe effects of this crisis.  This can be seen as a contribution to Appropriation Art.

Furthermore, every day you will find situations where the metasphere may remind you of the seriousness of the climate problem. And hopefully this will have an impact on your ecological footprint.
