In recent years, the climate crisis has become a main topic for socially engaged artists. Groups such as Artists for Future Austria have been founded in many countries. While important works visualizing possible effects of the crisis exist in Virtual Reality, only a few contributions are based on Augmented Reality Art.

In 2023, the metasphere devoped by Gerhard Knolmayer together with Sarah Montani and APTIQ was displayed in exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York City.

This climate-related metasphere was used subsequently to augment physicical artworks, leading to new interpretations that recall the severe impacts of this crisis.
